1. Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to AttenQR! These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the AttenQR mobile application and web service (collectively, the "Service"). By using AttenQR, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms.
2. Description of Service
AttenQR is a QR code-based smart attendance management system that enables:
- Teachers/Instructors: Create courses, generate QR codes, manage student enrollment, and track attendance records.
- Students: Enroll in courses via QR codes, scan daily attendance QR codes, and view attendance history.
- Automated Features: Daily-rotating QR codes for security, automatic course deletion 30 days after end date, CSV export for attendance records.
3. User Accounts
3.1 Account Creation
To use AttenQR, you must create an account by providing:
- Valid email address
- Password (minimum 6 characters)
- Name
- Account type (Teacher or Student)
3.2 Account Security
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
- You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized access to your account.
- You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account.
- Do not share your account with others.
3.3 Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
4. User Responsibilities
4.1 For Teachers/Instructors:
- Create accurate course information (name, schedule, period).
- Manage student enrollment appropriately.
- Generate and display QR codes only during scheduled class times.
- Export and back up attendance data before courses expire.
- Do not use the Service for unauthorized surveillance or tracking.
- Comply with institutional policies and applicable privacy laws (e.g., FERPA, COPPA).
4.2 For Students:
- Scan QR codes only when physically present in class.
- Do not share QR codes with absent students.
- Do not use screenshots or saved QR codes to fraudulently mark attendance.
- Enroll only in courses you are authorized to attend.
- Report any technical issues or discrepancies immediately.
5. Prohibited Activities
You agree NOT to:
- Use the Service for fraudulent attendance marking or academic dishonesty.
- Share, screenshot, or distribute QR codes to enable fraudulent check-ins.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the app.
- Use automated tools or bots to interact with the Service.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers.
- Upload malicious code or attempt to gain unauthorized access.
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations.
- Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation.
6. Data and Privacy
Your use of AttenQR is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
- Data Storage: All data is stored on Firebase (Google Cloud Platform) servers in the United States.
- Data Retention: Course and attendance data is automatically deleted 30 days after the course end date.
- Data Export: Teachers can export attendance records to CSV before deletion.
- Camera Access: Used only for scanning QR codes in real-time. No photos or videos are stored.
7. Intellectual Property
All content, features, and functionality of AttenQR, including but not limited to:
- Source code, design, graphics, and user interface
- Logos, trademarks, and service marks
- Text, images, and other materials
are owned by AttenQR or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service without our express written permission.
8. Third-Party Services
AttenQR uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase (Google): Authentication, database, and hosting
- Google AdMob: Advertisement display
- Google Play / App Store: App distribution and in-app purchases
Use of these services is subject to their respective terms and conditions. We are not responsible for third-party services' availability, content, or policies.
9. Advertisements and In-App Purchases
9.1 Advertisements
- AttenQR displays advertisements via Google AdMob.
- We do not control the content of third-party advertisements.
- You may purchase an "Ad-Free" version to remove advertisements.
9.2 In-App Purchases
- Premium Feature: One-time payment of $9.99 USD to remove all ads permanently.
- Purchases are processed through Google Play or Apple App Store.
- All sales are final and non-refundable unless required by applicable law.
- Premium status is tied to your user account and is non-transferable.
10. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability
10.1 Service "As Is"
AttenQR is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement
- Warranties that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
- Warranties that attendance records will be 100% accurate
10.2 Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, AttenQR and its developers shall NOT be liable for:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Loss of data, profits, or business opportunities
- Academic consequences (e.g., missed attendance, incorrect records)
- Damages arising from service interruptions, bugs, or errors
- Any claim exceeding $50 USD or the amount paid for premium features (whichever is greater)
10.3 User Responsibility
Important: Teachers and students are responsible for:
- Verifying the accuracy of attendance records
- Backing up important data before courses expire
- Using the Service in accordance with institutional policies
- Addressing any discrepancies with instructors or administrators
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless AttenQR and its developers from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from:
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your use or misuse of the Service
- Your violation of any rights of others
- Academic dishonesty or fraudulent attendance marking
12. Automatic Data Deletion
⚠️ Important Notice:
- All course and attendance data is automatically deleted 30 days after the course end date.
- This is done to save database space and reduce operational costs.
- Teachers should export attendance data to CSV before this deadline.
- Deleted data cannot be recovered.
13. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be effective when posted with an updated "Effective Date."
- Material changes will be notified via the app or email.
- Your continued use of AttenQR after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
- If you do not agree to changes, you must stop using the Service and delete your account.
14. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
- Any disputes shall be resolved through good faith negotiation.
- If negotiation fails, disputes will be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts in Indiana, United States.
- Both parties agree to waive any right to a jury trial.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
16. Language and Translation
AttenQR is available in 5 languages (English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Japanese).
These Terms are provided in English. Translations may be available, but the English version governs in case of conflicts or discrepancies.

These Terms, along with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and AttenQR regarding the use of the Service, superseding any prior agreements.
